Suicide in Colorado Spring,
what is the church doing about it?

David Galvan of LifeNetwork

Summary
The faith community plays a key role in de-stigmatizing mental health and preventing suicide.

El Paso County has been affected by the tragic impact of suicide among our youth - currently the second highest in the United States and teen suicide is one of Colorado’s primary challenges in addressing children’s health. While heartbreaking, the loss of life has led to collaboration all across the city to work to prevent teen suicide and de-stigmatize mental health. We see a need within this age range to have high-quality, engaging, open, and honest
conversations about these topics and the dynamics, social and personal, around it to assist in removing any stigma.

David will share with you techniques for creating conversations with students, and provide you with resources on these topics. This session will be a great chance to connect with others, and will leave you feeling equipped and empowered to help students find healing, help and HOPE!

Join us as we share what is being done in our community around suicide prevention and mental health, and how your congregation/parish can support efforts to drastically reduce death by suicide among our city’s youth.

Bio: David Galvan, Community and Church Relations Director for Life Network

David is a youth pastor who began as an Education for a Lifetime trainer in 2011 and has led this growing program since 2013. He has presented to thousands of youth in churches and schools over the last decade. As a youth pastor himself, he understands the unique challenges teens face in our digital age.

When David isn’t speaking to high school students about sexual risk avoidance and healthy decision making, he is spending time with his beautiful family (wife Renee, stepson James, and daughter Brielle) or playing fantasy football with his brothers. David is passionate about sharing truth with young minds and reminding each student of their value.
